Cambodia

The main international airport is Phnom Penh (the capital city)International Airport, however there are international services into Siem Reap from Thailand, China and Vietnam..

There are no direct flights from Australia into Cambodia. Thai (via Bangkok), Singapore Airlines (via Singapore) and Malaysian Airlines (via Kuala Lumpur) offer the most popular indirect flights into Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

Currency:
Cambodian Riel (Approximately 3,265 KHR for 1 Australian Dollar)

Main tourist highlights:
Phnom Penh’s main attractions are the National Museum, the Silver Pagoda, the Russian Market, the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom Hill, the founding place of the city. All are within easy walking distance of each other and are a great introduction to this laid-back city. The S-21 prison and the Cheung Ek ( killing fields) are the places to go in Phnom Penh if you want to learn more about the civil war.

Sihanoukville is the main beach resort, it’s a laid-back place that offers visitors a very relaxed stay. The beach in the town, whilst central, isn’t a patch on those to be found by walking just a few kilometres to the east. The town has great seafood restaurants also.

By far the biggest attraction in Cambodia, if not South East Asia as a whole, are the temples of Angkor. From Phnom Penh most people choose to take a boat on the vast Tonle Sap lake arrving at Siem Reap, the town closest to the temple complex. The temples are spread over 50 square kilometres and is an outstanding site that easily lives up to its status as being one of the seven wonders of the forgotten world.

For those seeking adventure, the North-eastern provinces are slowly being opened to travellers but its safety is arguable.
